Last year, Doug O’Neill brought 2013 Breeders’ Cup Mile Champion Goldencents to victory in the 2012 Delta Downs Jackpot Stakes with jockey Kevin Krigger on the mount. Goldencents earned his way into the 2013 Kentucky Derby by winning the Delta Downs, Sham Stakes, and Santa Anita Derby. Despite the colt’s 17th place finish in the Kentucky Derby, Goldencents is proof that the victor of the Delta Downs Jackpot has what it takes to become a world champion after winning the Breeders’ Cup Mile!

Breaking from post postion #5 with jockey Mario Gutierrez, trainer Doug O’Neill enters Reddam Racing’s two-year-old Rum Point in Saturday’s Delta Downs Jackpot Stakes. Rum Point most recently finished 12th in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile but that doesn’t sway the 5/1 morning line odds or the loyal fans of Team O’Neill. No other trainer has ever won the Delta Downs Jackpot more than once, so fans are doubly passionate about Rum Point and Doug O’Neill’s success.

Doug O’Neill told Lady and The Track via email that his team is extremely excited about another possible Delta Downs Jackpot win with the Malibu Moon colt Rum Point saying, “We’re so pumped about returning to Vinton, LA. Days after winning last year with Goldencents, we circled the calendar for this year’s running.”

The always-grateful Doug O’Neill added, “We’re blessed to have Rum Point. He’s a happy camper and is named after a beautiful spot in the Cayman Islands. We look forward to a safe trip for all.”
