Cyber Monday Weekend Horse Racing Recap

Before I begin my online shopping, here is a recap of all of the amazing horse races that made headlines this past holiday weekend. There were some exciting races along with bittersweet heartbreak as we watched some of our favorite champion racehorses run their last race and enter retirement.

Clark Handicap 2012
Shackleford finished first at Churchill Downs during the 2012 Clark Handicap. Shackleford won the 2011 Preakness. He ended his career Friday with his first place win at the 138^th running of the Clark Handicap. Shackleford will retire to stud at Darby Dan Farm in Lexington, Kentucky. Take Charge Indy placed second and Bourbon Courage finished third.

Cigar Mile Handicap 2012 at Aqueduct
Everyone hoped that the nation’s princess Groupie Doll would beat the boys and win the 2012 Cigar Mile. Stay Thirsty finished in first place just a nose in front of Groupie Doll. Stay Thirsty is the 2011 Travers Stakes winner and is also a Todd Pletcher trained horse.

Kentucky Jockey Club
Uncaptured finished first just barely beating Frac Daddy. Dewey Square finished in third place. Uncaptured was awarded 10 points towards his “road to the 2013 Kentucky Derby” by finishing first in the 2012 Kentucky Jockey Club.

Remsen Stakes at Aqueduct
Overanalyze won the $250,000 Remsen Stakes at Aqueduct on Saturday. The two-year-old is trained by Todd Pletcher and was jockeyed by Ramon Dominguez during the 2012 Remsen Stakes. Overanalyze gained 10 points towards his entry chances in the 2013 Kentucky Derby. Normandy Invasion finished in second place and Delhomme finished third.

Hollywood Derby
Unbridled Command and Javier Castellano placed first during the $250,000 Hollywood Derby. This is Unbridled Command’s fifth win in a row! Lucky Chappy AND Summer Soiree tied for a third place win at the 2012 Hollywood Derby.
