Vicar’s In Trouble Wins the 2014 Louisiana Derby: The 2014 Louisiana Derby at Fair Grounds was another race on the way to the Kentucky Derby. The race ran at 1 1/8 miles and it was Vicar’s in Trouble who took home the win and the $1 million dollar purse on Saturday, march 29, 2014. Vicar’s in Trouble is a three-year-old colt and is trained by Mike Maker and ridden by jockey Rosie Napravnik.
Victor’s in Trouble had a strong break from the gate in the 2014 Louisiana Derby and even took an early lead in the first quarter mile, and stayed strong throughout the race to take the win. Intense Holiday came in second and Commanding Curve came in third with In Trouble rounding out the top four. However, an Inquiry was made against In Trouble knocking him out of the fourth place spot and putting Albano in. Vicar’s in Trouble ran a strong race and was the 3-1 choice going into the race and he posted a winning time of 1 1/8 miles with a 3 ½ length win over the 9-5 favorite Intense Holiday.

Jockey Napravnik said, “He just broke really sharp and was comfortable in the lead” and Rosie Napravnik added, “It couldn’t mean any more. It’s the premier race at the track at the end of the meet. … It’s the race that you want to win…He’s a little tiny horse but he’s got a great big heart…I’m looking forward to the next step.”
Vicar’s in Trouble won the Lecomte Stakes in February and it will be interesting to see what Vicar’s in Trouble turns out at Churchill Downs for the 2014 Kentucky Derby.
