What To Wear To Sham Stakes

Briana Mott of Fashion At The Races dresses Trixie Hammer of Lady and The Track for the 2013 Sham Stakes

This Dolce and Gabbana dress will be perfect for the 2013 Sham Stakes at Santa Anita Park on January 5th.

The 2013 Sham Stakes takes place Saturday, January 5 at Santa Anita Park. The $100,000 race is for three-year-old males and is run on 1 1/8 mile dirt track. Luckily, I can focus on writing about the leading contenders running in the 2013 Sham Stakes and leave the fashion to the experts! Once again, Lady and The Track consulted Fashion At The Races for advice on what I should wear to Santa Anita Park’s Sham Stakes!

Briana Mott is a Racing Style Expert at Fashion At The Races and agreed to grace me with advice on what to wear at to Santa Anita Park for the 2013 Sham Stakes. Fashion At The Races is a fresh new face determined to showcase the fantastic fashion that is on display at our own US racetracks and around the world. By combining the wonderful thoroughbred racing industry with that of the fashion world, Fashion At The Races hopes to create a movement dedicated to building a solid and long lasting relationship between the two.

Fashion At The Races and Briana advised me of the following fashion information for the 2013 Sham Stakes;

“Weather will be in the 50’s so dresses are still comfortably worn with just some longer sleeves. This race day is in honor of the great racehorse ‘Sham’ that unfortunately was born at just the wrong time as he was matched against the amazing Secretariat. However, his accomplishments haven’t been overlooked as Santa Anita honors his career success on January 6. Since Sham would be considered vintage in the fashion world, (20 years ago…) we’ve decided to put together a more vintage look for Trixie this time around. Think Penny Chenery crossed with Jackie O. I think a great navy dress with mid-length sleeves is a great choice. We are picking a more structured piece to hug the body ever so slightly and flatter her lady-like figure. We found a gorgeous Dolce and Gabbana dress that is tight around the rib area and just a little loose down the hips. Perfect if you want to eat a bit and not show it!”

As far as acsessories for the 2013 Sham Stakes, Briana added;

“We will stay on the classic side and pair the dress with black accessories but give some added style with a lace pair of gloves. Keep the accessories small and simple so that you’re not losing the vintage feel. Black velvet pumps would be your perfect shoe choice, which will go perfectly with the vintage hat we found on Etsy.com designed by Batcakes Couture. A little face netting is a great addition and has the look of a little mystery about it. For the last touch, add a bright red lip. This will give the look a “what is that gorgeous woman hiding…” feel and everyone will want to know what it is when you walk in the room… always leave them wanting more!”

Added tips from a Fashion At The Races style expert:
-If you don’t usually go with a dark look like this (navy and black), switch the black to white or cream. The red lip goes with anything!

If there is one thing I love to do besides placing a bet on my favorite racehorse, it’s wearing red lipstick! Lady and The Track would like to thank Briana Mott of Fashion At The Races for her generous contribution of helping me look glamourous at the track!
