Stay Refreshed with the Official Drink of the Kentucky Derby: Bourbon isn’t the only drink that Kentucky is famous for; the Mint Julep is equally famous! Think of it as Bourbon’s lady like counterpart. You’ll be sure to see people enjoying them on race day at the Churchill Downs, as the Mint Julep is the official drink of the Kentucky Derby, but make sure you enjoy them around town as well!

If you can’t make it to Louisville for the Kentucky Derby then there is no reason that you can’t make your own cocktail and host a little get together of your own to watch the race and drink Mint Juleps.

There are some great spots to try out Kentucky’s famous drink. One spot to try out is Proof On Main. It is a very popular bar in Louisville and it is famous for its Mint Julep. The mint is fresh and their Mint Julep is sure to be refreshing. It is in a nice location on West Main Street. Another place to try is the Silver Dollar. The Silver Dollar is sure to use quality ingredients with only the best bourbon to make its signature Mint Julep. For a classy, ladies who lunch type of feel, try out your Mint Julep at The Brown Hotel. For a time traveling trip to the past, try out The Old Seelbach Bar, which is inside of the Seelbach Hotel in downtown Louisville; it is a genteel bar that is rooted in the early 1900’s.

*Beginner’s Note: If you are planning a visit to Churchill Downs for the Kentucky Derby, consider drinking only one or two mint juleps maximum. Every seasoned Derby goer knows that if you drink too many mint juleps you’ll end up in the infield missing a heel with your dress over your head.
