Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf; Isabella Sings for Siena Farm

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf; Isabella Sings for Siena Farm: Breeders’ Cup is upon us, and there are multiple horses gunning for a win. A win could make a horses career, or a loss, could break one’s career. There are horses looking for an eclipse award, and others are looking for second place money. One farm is looking for their first Breeders’ Cup win. This win won’t come in the Classic, but possibly in the Juvenile Fillies Turf. Isabella Sings has shown she loves turf, and he pedigree screams she can handle the turf and the two turns she will need to run on Friday, October 31, 2014. She will hope to bring home the $1,000,000 dollar prize for Siena Farm.

Isabella Sings is from the first crop of Eskendereya, who sadly, was injured before his run in the Kentucky Derby. Eskendereya is a young sire, trying to carry on the Giant’s Causeway sire line. Isabella Sings is out of Isobel Baillie (GB), by Lomitas (GB). Isabella sings would likely be a dirt horse, had her mare not had such strong turf influence. Isabella Sings was a homebred of Siena Farms. When David Pope, President of Sienna Farm LLC, was looking for a stallion for Isobel Baillie (GB), he took into consideration that the mare Glorious Song, who can be found in both Isobel Baillie and Eskendereya, that was really the deciding factor.

“Yes, the Glorious Song was what we were looking for in the mating. But we had to make sure the physical of the stallion worked as well. Eskendereya gave her the “leg” she needed.”

When David attempted to breed Isobel Baillie (GB) to First Samurai, the result was Bling Queen. During Bling Queen’s career, she was found to be short on leg, only allowing her to get about 5F. David took this into consideration when breeding Isobel Baillie to Eskendereya.

Isabella Sings has proven that the cross was a success. She broke her maiden on debut for trainer Todd Pletcher in a 6F maiden special weight at Belmont. She showed such potential that Pletcher sent her to Woodbine for the Grade 2 Natalma Stakes, run at one mile. Isabella Sings has a come from behind style of running, and she is likely to improve with distance. She fought the entire stretch of the Natalma Stakes, only to get taken to the wire by Conquest Harlanate by a neck.

In the Juvenile Fillies Turf, she is likely to run into Conquest Harlanate again, but also Rainha Da Bateria, who just recently won the J.P. Morgan Chase Jessamine Stakes at Keeneland. There is also a possible starter in Lady Eli, who hasn’t won a challenge race, but did win the Miss Grillo Stakes (G3) at Belmont in her second start. There is also Nicky’s Brown Miss, a daughter of Big Brown, 2008 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner. She finished 1st in the Kentucky Juvenile Fillies Stakes, but then returned in the G3 Miss Grillo to finish a disappointing tenth. Other possible starters are Her Emmynency, Partisan Politics, and Sunset Glow.

Isabella Sings is one of two Siena Farm hopefuls in the Breeders’ Cup this year. Pletcher also has Siena Farm homebred Angela Renee, pointed toward the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. These two fillies are the best shots Siena Farms has this year, and it’s a possibility that either, or both, could put Siena Farms up there in stature. With a youth of Siena Farms, they are off to a fantastic start.
