Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Contender Danette

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Contender Danette: The Breeders’ Cup has taken a lot of hits lately. Palace Malice, Will Take Charge, Game on Dude, Mucho Macho Man, Wise Dan, Competitive Edge, and Hashtag Bourbon are all out for various reasons. The races seem depleted. There is life to be found in the races though! The juvenile races may be the highlight of this year’s Breeders’ Cup, besides the race for three-year-old champion in the Classic. The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies is looking very appealing, but one of the contenders is still a maiden! That may not be so bad though. In 2012, the world saw Hightail break his maiden in his ninth start. It would be his only win in ten starts. This year, Danette hopes to break her maiden in the Juvenile Fillies.

Danette is a daughter of the great Curlin, who has shown he lends stamina to most of his offspring, and stamina is one thing Danette likely possess. She has yet to win a race, but she had hit the board three times in five starts this year. Last out, she ran into Angela Renee and Conquest Eclipse in the Chandelier (G1). She likely will relish the 8.5 furlongs that the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies is run at, but with her still being a maiden, running against some of the best two-year-old fillies in the country, can she prevail on class alone?

Pedigree will play a part in the success of Danette. Like previously stated, she is by Curlin, who is currently #12 on the General Sires list. Curlin has already sired a classic winner in Palace Malice, but yet to sire a Breeders’ Cup winner. Danette will also get help from her distaff line. She is out a Dixieland Band mare, which will likely lend some speed that she needs to be tactical. The filly also contains the sire lines of Unbridled and Fappiano in her distaff line. This mixture of speed, classic stamina, and class is likely to get Danette to the winners circle sooner rather than later.

As a racehorse, Danette is not a slouch. Keith Desormeaux and his brother Kent Desormeaux (Big Brown’s jockey) have campaigned her well. She only recently stepped into graded stakes company, but they have been increasing distance in almost every start. They both know the filly is likely to enjoy longer distances, and the filly has shown talent in her last three starts. While she was third in her last start, she showed determination. She came from third last to finish third in grade one company. No horse was catching Angela Renee that day, but Danette was third best, running a very good race for a speed-favoring track such as Santa Anita.

With Danette, Keith Desormeaux and the owners, Don’t Tell My Wife Stables, they could have a good one on their hands. Keith’s biggest win is the grade two Risen Star Stakes, when he won it with I’ve Struck a Nerve in 2013, which maiden $272.40 to a $2 win bet. Keith is likely to have Danette ready for her biggest race to date. She has a favorable running style and pedigree moving forward, as the distances get longer and the horses are pressed a bit more in their races.
