El Camino Real Derby 2015; Valentine’s Day at Golden Gate Fields

El Camino Real Derby 2015; Valentine’s Day at Golden Gate Fields: This year’s edition of the El Camino Real Derby will be held at Golden Gate Fields in Berkeley, California, on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2015. This is the biggest race held at Golden Gate Fields, and it is a part of the trail to the Kentucky Derby. The El Camino Real Derby is a Grade 3 stakes race for three-year-olds and is run at 1-1/8 miles with a guaranteed $200,000 purse. After the running of the El Camino Real Derby, the Turf Club at Golden Gate Fields is the perfect place to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

What to do at Golden Gate Fields for the El Camino Real Derby…

On this Kentucky Derby prep day, patrons at Golden Gate Fields should be certain to check out the Turf Club. The Turf Club is like a walk back in time with Tiffany style lights and leather furnishings and art that showcases the Thoroughbred chronicles of California Derby winners of the past. For the fashion conscious, the Turf Club also showcases Hermes and Gucci equine scarves. For horse racing enthusiasts, the Turf Club houses the “Lost In The Fog” tribute and memory wall. The restaurant is theater style and has a glass wall facing the racecourse and lake turf course. The Turf Club is situated at the highest point of Golden Gate Fields, offering a panoramic view of the courses and the rolling Berkeley hills. There are also private viewing screens at every table and over 80 flat screen televisions throughout the club. Race-watching in the Turf Club culminates on the jumbo television screen. Convenient live tellers and automatic wagering machines are also available to increase customer enjoyment of the club.

The Turf Club menu offers American pub-style food prepared by Executive Chef Bryan Taylor with affordable prices ranging from $6.00 to $24.00. The menu also boasts fine wines, traditional cocktails, and beer. There is a buffet that is open on live racing days from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Because the place is so popular and thus busy, reservations are strongly recommended.

Golden Gates Fields offers a variety of other options as well, including the Paddock Pub, Apron Barbeque, The Carvery, Track Snacks, Circle Bar and Jockey Bar, and Tastes of Italy. Guests can first enjoy a day of racing and then a romantic dinner afterwards to celebrate both the Derby prep and Valentine’s Day.

The first post time is set for 12:45 p.m. at Golden Gate, and general admission is $6 while kids 17 and under are admitted to the races for free.

What to wear to the El Camino Real Derby…

In order to be appropriately dressed for the El Camino Real Derby and for any Valentine’s festivities to follow, go ahead and go all out in red. Red is such a classic color, and every woman looks appealing in a shade of red. You will stand out at the track and be ready for a romantic date afterwards.

Thankfully, red looks great on everyone. You just have to find your own particular shade of red. If you have a warm skin tone, then an orange-yellow based warm red will suit you best, whereas cooler skin tones look great in red with blue and purple undertones. Pair your red looks with neutrals or gold, silver, and bronze metallic accessories. For example, try a neutral ivory fascinator by Fashion at the Races that adds interest to your look but doesn’t take away from your standout red outfit.

Hopefully you will enjoy a great day of racing in your red look while winning big and taking your earnings to enjoy a romantic evening!
