VIDEO: Kentucky Derby Winner Nyquist Out of Belmont Stakes– After spiking a fever just two days after the Preakness Stakes, Nyquist’s blood work came back on Tuesday morning with a slightly elevated white-blood cell count. The Kentucky Derby winner’s temperature was elevated as well. Assistant trainer Jack Sisterton spoke to Doug O’Neill and and a decision was made to leave Nyquist at Pimlico until he is recovered enough to transport him back to California. Doug O’Neill “wants to do what is best for Nyquist” reported Sisterton to the Maryland Jockey Club. The plan is to get him back to California and get him fit and healthy. A travel date has not been determined at this time. The team looks to have some fun with Nyquist at Saratoga in the following months.
