Five Set For Closing Weekend Feature

Los-Alamitos-Derby-Odds_USRacingThe names of just five runners were dropped into the entry box for Saturday’s $150,000 Los Alamitos Derby, which is now in its fourth year Los Al after being run at Hollywood Park as the Swaps Stakes since its inception in the mid-1970s. Included in the field of expected runners are three stakes winners, two of which captured graded events.The recent scorching Southern California weather is expected to back off by Saturday and temperatures are expected to hover in the mid-80s and no rain is expected.

Last year champion West Coast won this nine-furlong test on his way to a Travers Stakes (GI) win, followed by a Pennsylvania Derby (GII), a third in the Breeders’ Cup Classic (GI) and seconds in the Pegasus World Cup (GI) and Dubai World Cup (GI). Last year’s Eclipse Award-winning sophomore joined a list of names that includes popular runners/champions/Hall of Famers J O Tobin, Precisionist, Lively One, Best Pal, Thunder Gulch, Free House, Captain Steve, Congaree, Came Home, Shared Belief and many others.
