The Central Bank Ashland Stakes takes place Saturday April 6, 2013 at Keeneland in Lexington, Kentucky. The $500,000 1 1/16 miles race is for three-year-old fillies and is a key race for 2013 Kentucky Oaks hopefuls. There are fourteen entries with two additional eligible contenders in the Ashland Stakes including Siena Farm’s Private Ensign.

Private Ensign will break from post position #3 in the Ashland Stakes with jockey Corey Lanerie aboard. Private Ensign is trained by Dale Romans and is part of the Siena Farm family, Home of Dewey Square. Private Ensign is by A.P. Indy and out of Winner (Horse Chestnut (SAF)). Private Ensign has won two out of her four career starts.

We spoke to David Pope, president/owner of Siena Farm about Private Ensign’s entry in the 2013 Ashland Stakes.

David Pope stated, “She has been training very well, getting some weight on her, and we hope she will like the polytrack.” David added, “If she does, she will do very well.”

In related news, David Pope commented on fan favorite Dewey Square saying, “Dewey is also working very well and will get a chance to breeze on the polytrack, before we decide on a race.”
