Preakness Stakes 2013: Goldencents & Kevin Krigger

Goldencents

Goldencents and Kevin Krigger will attempt the second jewel of the Triple Crown in the Preakness Stakes on Saturday May 18, 2013.

Happy-Go-Lucky Goldencents is settled in at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland preparing for the Preakness Stakes on Saturday May 18, 2013. The social media sensation has been posting pictures of his recent gallops around the track and asking fans to bring him Maryland style crab cakes!

Kevin Krigger has been aboard Goldencents for all seven of the colt’s races including the 2013 Kentucky Derby where the duo finished in 17th place due to the sloppy Churchill Downs track. The team is talented despite their flawed Derby performance. Goldencents and Kevin Krigger finished first in four races throughout “Goldie’s” career. Goldencents has been training with jockey Kevin Krigger daily for the “Run for The Black-Eyed Susans” since arriving at Pamlico Race Course.

Jockey Kevin Krigger put everything on the line for the second jewel of the Triple Crown. Kevin has dedicated himself to riding and bonding with Goldencents everyday until Saturday’s Preakness Stakes.

Kevin Krigger stated, “This horse is our bread and our butter, our best horse. The day I was leaving to go back to California on Monday, my agent phoned me and said ‘Doug would like you to stay and get on the horse.’ This is something I’ve always wanted to do, gallop him every day. It wasn’t a hard decision for me to make. If we get it done, I don’t see where that should be a negative impact. I’m going to give him my best to get it done. If we get it done, just me staying here and winning it should erase the fact that I stayed.”

The Lady and The Track team had the pleasure of meeting Doug O’Neill and Kevin Krigger during Derby week. Team O’Neill is full of heart and full of fight! Lady and The Track would like to wish Team O’Neill, owners WC Racing, jockey Kevin Krigger, and Goldencents the best of luck in the 2013 Preakness Stakes.

The Preakness Stakes is set with a 6:20 PM EDT post time. Coverage begins at 4:30 PM EDT on NBC Sports. A Preakness pre-show will air on NBC Sports Network from 2:30-4:30 PM EDT and a post-show will air on NBC Sports Network from 6:30-7:00 PM EDT.
