On Fire Baby Improving

On Fire Baby

On Fire Baby is recovering from a fever and possible virus.

On Fire Baby has withdrawn from the much-anticipated Fleur des Lis Handicap due to a fever and possibly virus. The beautiful gray filly has been pointed towards the Fleur des Lis Handicap since her 2nd place finish at Churchill Downs in the La Troienne Stakes on May 3, 2013. Thankfully, recent reports suggest On Fire Baby is feeling better and improving.

On Fire baby’s trainer Gary Hartlage (Red Dog) recently reported to DRF the following, “We’re thinking and hoping it’s only a virus. We thought it was a little case of colic early Monday and we treated her, and she was fine. But then she didn’t go to her feed tub Monday night.”

Red Dog added, “We’ll just have to see what the doctors say. Obviously, it’s bad timing, but these things happen a lot, unfortunately. Hopefully, she’ll be over it real soon.”

On Fire Baby was transported to Hagyard Equine Medical Institute for treatment and observation after the filly’s fever spiked to 104 degrees. A normal temperature for a thoroughbred is roughly around 100 degrees.

Yesterday, On Fire Baby reported via facebook that her “fever is much better” and that the staff at Hagyard is “taking great care of me.”

On Fire Baby’s career wins include the Apple Blossom Stakes, the Honeybee Stakes, the Goldenrod Stakes, and the Pocahontas Stakes.

Lady and The Track would like to wish our favorite gal On Fire Baby a speedy recovery!
