Despite a sloppy track a new set of blinkers, Alpha and jockey John Velazquez won the 2013 Woodward Stakes at Saratoga Race Course on Saturday for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. The Woodward Stakes was the Godolphin Racing’s colt first win since the 2012 Travers Stakes. Alpha’s “upset” win paid his fans $17.40!

Earning his eighth stakes victory, the Dale Roman’s trained colt Silver Max won the Grade II $250,000 Bernard Baruch Handicap on the turf Saturday at Saratoga. Silver Max won the 1 1/16 turf race by over two lengths.

Just one day after the death of his stable-mate Saginaw, Strapping Groom and jockey Junior Alvarado won the 2013 Forego at Saratoga Race Course. The win was an emotional one for the connections of Strapping Groom. It was reported that Drawing Away Stable “believes in miracles” and feels “Saginaw has their backs.”

With 9-2 odds, Jockey Gary Stevens and two-year-old She’s A Tiger won the Grade I $300,000 Del Mar Debutante for fillies on Saturday. Trainer Jeff Bonde reported She’s A Tiger came out of the race just fine and will ship to Santa Anita Park on Wednesday in hopes of running in the $2 million 2013 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies on Friday, November 1st.

Ken & Sarah Ramsey broke the Saratoga record winning 22 races (as of Sunday) during the Spa’s 2013 meet and were awarding the “Leading Owner” title at Saratoga for the 3rd time.

Todd Pletcher was awarded his 10th trainer title at Saratoga with 35 wins (as of Sunday) during the 2013 meet as of Sunday night. This was Pletcher’s fourth year in a row winning the title.

Jockey Javier Castellano won the Saratoga riding title. This was Castellano’s first win with a total over 61 wins by day end on Sunday, 16 more than John Velazquez.

Gabriel Charles and Ethnic Dance won the two 2013 Del Mar Derby races. Due to the amount of entries, the 2013 Del Mar Derby was split into two races, Gabriel Charles won the first race and Ethnic Dance won the second. Now who wants to see them race each other??

The beautiful Spendthrift Farm filly Beholder made her first start on Sunday in the Torrey Pines since the 2013 Kentucky Oaks, where she finished 2nd to Princess of Sylmar. Beholder won the 2013 Torrey Pines by 2 ¾ lengths. Jockey Gary Stevens led Beholder across the finish line first in an effortless victory against her three-year-old rivals. Beholder is the 2012 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies champ.

Florida bred four-year-old Egg Drop won the Yellow Ribbon Handicap at Del Mar after an inquiry. Immediately after Egg Drop, Appealing, and My Gi Gi crossed the finish line, stewards has questions regarding an “incident” in the final stretch. Egg Drop was deservingly announced the winner of the Yellow Ribbon.
