Untapable Unstoppable in 2013 Pocahontas Stakes

Untapable Unstoppable in 2013 Pocahontas Stakes

Untapable won the 2013 45th running of the GII Pocahontas Stakes on Saturday September 7, 2013 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. The two-year-old filly and jockey Rosie Napravnik beat out seven rivals on the 1 1/16 mile fast track with a 1:44.38 time and banked over $168,000.

The Pocahontas Stakes was Untapable’s second race in the filly’s life and awarded her with 10 points on the Kentucky Oaks Leaderboard and also an automatic starting spot and travel allowance to compete in the 2013 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies.

Rosie Napravnik and two-year-old Untapable won the Pocahontas Stakes on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Churchill Downs.

Trained by Steve Amussen, Untapable didn’t have an easy run in the 2013 Pocahontas Stakes fighting her way to the finish line every step of the way. She looked unsettled, even thrashing her head a bit, while tracking the early pacesetters. Calm and cool Napravnik sat on Untapable with patience until she spotted an opening and went for it. Untapable and Napravnik fought their way down the stretch ultimately beating Stonetastic finishing with 5-1 odds.

After the 2013 Pocahontas Stakes win, a smiling Rosie Napravnik said, “She was awesome.” Napravnik added, “She’s a very, very talented filly and it was a lot to ask of her, second time out, she hadn’t run in a couple of months, and running two turns against winners.”

Steve Amussen told the media that the 2013 $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies is “in the plan” for Untapable.
