Goldencents, sans blinkers, and jockey Rafael Bejarano won the 2013 Breeders’ Cup Mile today at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. The Doug O’Neill team made it look easy as they broke from the gate and stayed in the lead all the way to the finish line. The $1 million one-mile dirt race showcased eleven top thoroughbreds three-years-old and up including Golden Ticket who fought hard at the finish and placed second.

Goldencents and Rafael Bejarano finished first in front of Golden Ticket by two-and-three-quarters lengths and finished the Dirt Mile in 1:35.12. Goldencents last win was the Santa Anita Stakes on April 6, 2013.

One owner of Goldencents happily gushed after today’s win, “Doug O’Neill is the best trainer in the world. Just the best!”

In related news, Centralintelligence was pulled up and vaned off due to a fractured front cannon bone. More info to come.
