Honor Code beat out the competition at Saturday’s 2013 Remsen Stakes for 2-year-olds at Aqueduct Race Track in New York, winning the $400,000 purse and ten points on the 2014 Kentucky Derby Leaderboard. Honor Code beat out his main rival for the Remsen Grade 2 Stakes, Cairo Prince, who was 2-1 going into the race. This win makes Honor Code a favorite in the future pool for the Kentucky Derby.

Honor Code was originally overtaken in the stretch but was able to power forward and inch out Cairo Prince for the win. There were eight running the race. In the beginning it was Master Lightning that went to the lead. Jockey Javier Castellano was able to take Honor Code and charge to a stalking position to move past Master Lightening and move on the outside of the longshot to get into the lead over Master Lightening. Cairo Prince came out of the turn in second just behind Honor Code and eventually gained a significant half-length lead looking like Cairo Prince would take the lead. Then, in an exciting moment, Honor Code was able to fight back and get a nose out in the lead to defeat Cairo Prince after a 1 1/8 mile.

Shug McGaughey, Honor Code’s trainer stated, “we’re going to let him [Honor Code] run his race…He showed lots of guts. I’m proud of him.”

Wicked Strong came in third place and rounded out the top three and was beaten only by a half-length. The top three horses had a good run and the Remsen proved to be a race that showed just what Honor Code can do and giving many excitement about Honor Code’s future.
