Maggie Mae Designs and Old Friends Auction “Dancin Renee” to Benefit Horses

MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS and Old Friends are teaming up once again to auction off “Dancin Renee”, a beautiful one-of-a-kind hat to benefit retired racehorses. Just in time for the holidays, the ebay auction for “Dancin Renee” ends on December 11 and currently has a bid of $500. The “Dancin Renee” hat would make a great gift for the lucky lady in your life! She’ll be thrilled to wear this elegant couture MAGGIE MAE derby hat to the track.

This is the fourth annual “Hats Off To The Horses: The Road To The Derby” which is a unique online derby hat auction benefiting Old Friends. The “Dancin Renee” hat is the second out of six hats to be auctioned off during this series. World famous hat designer Sally Faith Steinmann, of MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS, kindly designs the fabulous millinery to benefit Old Friends. The first hat that was auctioned off in the current series of six was the “Rapid Redux” hat which earned a whopping $615!

The beautiful “Dancin Renee” derby/wedding hat honors 20-year-old mare Dancin Renee. Dancin Renee was 1997’s New York Horse of The Year. Dancin Renee had an amazing career for three seasons with 14 wins out of 21 starts. In 1997 Dancin Renee won seven consecutive races, including the GR3 Honorable Miss at Saratoga, the Broadway Handicap at Aqueduct, and the Monmouth Park Regret Stakes, which was her final start. Her earnings totaled $490,258.

Dancin Renee was brought to Old Friends from New York on September 14, 2012. The homebred mare was donated by her owner/breeder, Sanford Bacon.

Old Friends founder and president Michael Blowen commented, “We have a lot of horses on our waiting list but I made the decision to take Dancin’ Renee because she was a remarkable athlete and Sanford loves her very much. She has already bonded with another great mare, one-time world-record holder Klassy Briefcase, and I’m just overjoyed.”

The Dancin Renee hat is white and red with delicate black lace trimming. Inspired by the lights on broadway and Ziegfield Follies, the “Dancin Renee” hat showcases a unique tone of colors mimicking the shades of Sanford Bacon’s stables. This hat definitely has a way of saying, “It’s show time!” In addition to the beautiful design of the hat, MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS and Sally Faith Steinmann have taken several strands of the mare’s tail hairs and carefully braided and placed them inside the trim of the hat itself.
