Esquire Horseplayers Episode 1 Recap

Horseplayers on Esquire debuted on January 21st. Episode 1 of the premier season of Horseplayers gave viewers an inside look to the world of betting on horse races. The show is unique in that it is not just about the inside sport of horse racing, but instead follows the big personalities that professionally bet on the horses.

Horseplayers Recap

Horseplayers airs on Tuesdays nights at 10:00 PM EST on the Esquire channel.

Horseplayers is a recent addition to the Esquire network, produced by Go Go Luckey; Horseplayers allows viewers to “Enter the high-stakes world of professional horse race handicapping, where the only thing bigger than the bets are the characters placing them. From Churchill Downs to Saratoga to Santa Anita, each episode follows a group of handicappers as they travel the country in search of instant riches – and compete for the title of America’s top handicapper.”

The first episode of Horseplayers featured three big players in the horse racing world, Peter Rotondo, Jr., and Sr., along with Lee Davis, comprising Team Rotondo betting at the Big A at the Cigar Mile; Jon Conte, who is the 2009 National Handicapping Tournament winner, also betting at Aqueduct; and finally Christian Hellmers, who is competing in the Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge.

All of the Horseplayers have dynamic personalities and each have different tactics and approaches to betting. Team Rotondo, truly takes a studied team approach, Jon Conte has an intuitive sense, and Hellmers shows the mathematical approach to betting.

There are more personalities that viewers will get to know as the season continues. Though the show highlights the players betting above the jockeys and horses, one thing is for sure, Horseplayers, highlights the intensity and high stakes risk involved in the world of Horseracing. As John Conte said in the premier episode “Handicapping it’s a very tricky game, it’s like playing cards, there’s one way to win, 500 ways to lose.”

Perhaps as Horseplayers continues to unfold viewers will get to know these major characters and learn a little something on how to place a bet.

Horseplayers airs on the ESQUIRE channel on Tuesdays at 10:00 PM EST. Be sure to check back for online viewing of episode 1 of Horseplayers as soon as it becomes available.
