Lochte Shocks with Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap Win

Lochte Shocks Everyone with a Major Win against the Odds at the 2014 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap: The 2014 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap proved to be an exciting race as there was a surprising win for Locthe. Locthe was not by any means the favorite coming into the race with odds of 35/1. The favorites coming into the race were Summer Front, Amira’s Prince, and Imagining, but it was Lochte who took the win.

Even in the beginning of the 2014 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap and as the race progressed, no one saw Lochte as a threat as he stayed behind the track leaders for most of the race, with Tetradrachm being the one to set the pace, but then when it was time to go down the main stretch, Lochte made his move and swiftly overpowered the competition, making his way to the lead and winning the race without much resistance.

Lochte is trained by Marcus Vitalia and was ridden by jockey Orlando Bocachica and with Bocachica’s help, Lochte’s race post time was 1:45.67. The four-year-old gelding raced against graded stakes horses for the first time, making it even more impressive that he took the win. All of the other horses racing were turf horses and Lochte literally had the biggest odds against him, but he was able to take the lead, upsetting all of the favorites coming into the race. The race was 1 1/8 miles on the Gulfstream Park Turf, and the purse was $300,000. Odds favorites, Imagining and Amira’s Prince came in 2nd and 3rd place.

Of today’s win Bocachica reported, “It feels great. I love it. I think I’m actually shocked. I didn’t know today would be the day in such a stake…When I had the room to ask him, he was there for me. He just ran his race…I think he’s my new favorite horse.”

Vitali, who was also ecstatic about today’s win reported, “It’s like they say in football after you win the Super Bowl, ‘I want to go to Disneyland.’ I talked it over with the owner and we were taking our chance here. His numbers were going up and up. Myself, and my staff, we all felt really comfortable with the horse’s progress. The breeding shows he can get the job done. I didn’t see any reason why he couldn’t accomplish great things. I didn’t’ go into this expecting to come out on top but I surely hoped I would. Everything unfolded the right way, and here we are.”

Lochte’s team is no doubt excited about all the buzz that Lochte has generated at the 2014 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap and Lochte will no doubt be one to continue to watch.
