Rosalind and Room Service Finish in Ashland Stakes Dead Heat
Rosalind and Room Service Finish in a Dead Heat at the 2014 Ashland Stakes: The Grade 1 2014 Ashland Stakes at Keeneland in Kentucky proved to be an exciting race with a close finish. Room Service and Rosalind went head to head with a dead-heat finish on Saturday, April 5, 2014. It seemed as though Rosalind may have gotten just a little bit ahead in the inside edge, but with the photo finish it was a clear even tie win for the two 3-year-old fillies.
Rosalind and Room Service battled it out throughout the Ashland Stakes and they both got to the head of the pack at the top of the stretch and ran next to each other down to the wire. Kenny McPeek trains Rosalind and Wayne Catalano trains Room Service. It was tense for both of them for a little while but the results proved to be happy for both of them. The post time for the 1 1/16 mile polytrack was 1:43.38.
McPeek said, “You never know with the head bob and the angles and all of that stuff, but I was pretty confident we either won it or at the worst we were a dead heat…Even a dead heat is a win, so we’ll take it.”
Trainer Catalano said, “I thought I got nosed out, to tell you the truth. From the angle I had, I thought, ‘Wow.’ It looked like it was very, very close. … When they took that long, I was hoping to settle for a dead heat.”
This is the first time in the history of Keeneland that there was a dead heat. Both horses took home a $200,000 purse and 70 points on the Kentucky Oaks leader board.
