At the start of the year on January 4th, Awesome Baby won the Grade 2 6 ½ furlong Santa Ynez at Santa Anita Park, and then again at Santa Anita Park on March 1st, Awesome Baby won the grade 3 Santa Ysabel (watch replay), which was 1 1/16 miles long. Then, recently, on March 23rd at Sunland Park, Awesome Baby took home the win at the Sunland Park Oaks (watch replay) which was 1 1/16 miles long as well.

Awesome Baby is trained by Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert. Bob Baffert has won the Kentucky Derby back to back in 1997 with Silver Charm and then again in 1998 with Real Quiet. Baffert won the Derby again in 2002 with War Emblem. Baffert has also saddled 19 horses in the Run for the Roses and won the Preakness states for a record of five times. Baffert has also been recognized as the Eclipse Award winner for top trainer three separate times. Baffert has shown ability at the Kentucky Oaks saddling two Oaks winners, Silverbulletday and Plum Pretty.

Awesome Baby is owned by Kaleem Shah, who lives in Virginia. Kaleem Shah is the founder of CalNet, an information technology company, and he and his family won the Indian Triple Crown. Though Kaleem was encouraged by his father to focus on education rather than focusing on horse racing, the bug bit Kaleem anyways and he began racing on the east coast beginning in 1996.

Awesome Baby was sired by Awesome Again who was the Breeders’ Cup Classic winner and Awesome Baby’s dam is Miss Attractive.

There is a strong team behind Awesome Baby entering into this year’s Kentucky Oaks and Awesome Baby is ridden by jockey Mike Smith, hopefully Awesome Baby and team will have great results at Churchill Downs.
