Kentucky Oaks 2014; My Miss Sophia gallops Churchill Downs Track

Kentucky Oaks 2014; My Miss Sophia gallops Churchill Downs Track: My Miss Sophia is set to race in this year’s Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs on May 2, 2014. The three-year-old filly tops the Kentucky Oaks leader board in 4th place tied with In Tune. Both fillies earned 100 points total during the Kentucky Oaks prep season. Got Lucky and My Miss Sophia spent time galloping around the Churchill Downs track Tuesday morning after the morning renovation break for trainer Todd Pletcher.

My Miss Sophia is a graded stakes winner and her team includes jockey Javier Castellano and trainer Todd Pletcher. My Miss Sophia was foaled on February 28, 2011 and My Miss Sophia’s breeder is John D. Gunther. My Miss Sophia is owned by Mathis Stable LLC. Mathis Stable LLC is owned by Bill and Terry Mathis and it is located in Oklahoma. The Mathises own a retail furniture company. This married couple has been involved in horse racing since 1980, but then left for 20 years despite having a successful career. They returned to the world of horse racing in 2011.

Award winning trainer Todd Pletcher and jockey Javier Castellano have already had some success with My Miss Sophia this year as she took home a win on April 5th of this year at the Gazelle Stakes (watch replay) at Aqueduct. It was a grade 2 race set at 1 1/8 miles. My Miss Sophia proved that she was a force to be reckoned with in the Gazelle Stakes by winning with an impressive and dominating 7 ¼ lengths and she entered into the race as the 4-5 favorite. My Miss Sophia has proven that she can handle distance, having run her races with plenty of fuel this year, with her racing actually indicating that she could probably handle even longer distances. My Miss Sophia hails from multiple grade 1 winning millionaire Unbridled’s Song and Wildwood Flower.

My Miss Sophia’s  strength and speed will certainly be something to look out for in this year’s 140th running of the Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs.

Why the beginners would bet on My Miss Sophia in the 2014 Kentucky Oaks?
Flat out she’s a beautiful filly who is easy to root for. She’s two-for-three in career wins regardless of the race class.
Why the beginners wouldn’t bet on My Miss Sophia in the 2014 Kentucky Oaks?
My Miss Sophia is one of three contenders in the 2014 Kentucky Oaks trained by Todd Pletcher. We know it’s part of the game and not the filly’s fault but three entries by the same trainer seems sketchy, especially to an amateur placing a wager.
