Bing Crosby Stakes 2014; Family Fun Day & Newbie Seminar: On Sunday, July 27th, the 2014 Bing Crosby Stakes is set to take place at Del Mar Thoroughbred Club in Del Mar, California. The Bing Crosby Stakes is a grade 1 race for three-year-olds and upward. The race is six furlongs on a turf track and it carries a $150,000 purse. There will be featured events throughout the day at Del Mar for participants and race goers to enjoy.

If you are an early riser you can enjoy a great breakfast in the Clubhouse Terrace Restaurant from 7:30-9:30am and watch the morning workouts at Del Mar. It is a lovely open air dining experience. Jeff Bloom, a former jockey, will also be there to give behind the scenes info, tips, and answer questions as an event announcer. There is no admission charge, just a $10 parking fee.

Also, for newbies to the world of horse racing, Del Mar hosts a newcomer’s seminar 1 hour prior to the first race at the Plaza de Mexico by Stretch Run admission gates. You will receive free horse racing information and help in understanding odds and handicapping. You can also try the weekend handicapping seminars starting at 12:45 pm at the Seaside Terrace. The event is also free and features a special guest speaker to go over the day’s race card.

If you are bringing the whole family along then there are family weekends featured at Del Mar. Children receive free track admission and adults are only $6 each. Free activities include Giant Scramble Slide and Obstacle Course, Inflatable games and rides, Del Mar Mascot “Pony Boy” and Pony Rides along with Magic Shows and a Game Zone, Jockey Stilt Walkers, Face Painters, and a Caricature Artist. There is also a pavilion adjacent to the family fun area that is only $5 per adults and $1 per child. This all includes admission, a program, table seating, and TV viewing.

Whether you decide to come early for breakfast, or you want to bring your whole family for family fun be sure to look your Sunday best in a great sundress that will keep you looking great and cool and comfortable on a summer’s day. Avoid lace or something to constricting which can become more and more uncomfortable as the heat rises and the day goes on. Chanel a Pretty Woman Julia Roberts moment in a yellow polka dot dress (pictured below) or a rainbow striped dress which is very slimming with flats. Pair your dress with a great wide brimmed sun hat and you will be all set for a fun day at the races.
