Work All Week Wins 2014 Breeders’ Cup Sprint Position

Work All Week Wins 2014 Breeders’ Cup Sprint Position: Work All Week and jockey Florent Geroux won the G3 Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” Stoll Keenon Ogden Phoenix Stakes at Keeneland on Friday, October 3, 2014. The six-furlong $200,000 race for three-year-olds and up was clearly Work All Week’s race to win after being sent off as the favorite.

Owner Richard Papiese of Midwest Thoroughbreds Inc. will make a decision on if Work All Week will head out to California for the Breeders’ Cup within the next few days saying, “We’ll see how he comes out of this, and if he comes out good, then yes, we’ll go to California. (He) loves dirt – has never lost on dirt.”

Work All Week made his move midway down the track in the 2014 Stoll Keenon Ogden Phoenix Stakes and passed second place finisher C. Zee and jockey Luis Saez.

Five-year-old Work All Week broke from the far outside in the eight-horse field but that didn’t bother the gelding’s jockey one bit. Florent Geroux reported, “Had a great trip. Really liked the post going into the race, being outside like this with a lot of speed. So I could see what was going to happen inside. If we have to go, we go. If not, we can sit off (the pace) like I just did. My horse, he loves to win. He’s 11 for 14 now. He’s a very special horse. He’s run some big races before, and today he proved now he’s probably the best sprinter in the country.”

The Stoll Keenon Ogden Phoenix Stakes victory gave Work All Week his 8th win on dirt for trainer Roger Brueggemann.

Fall Stars Weekend continues Saturday with a 10-race program featuring five graded stakes headlined by the first $1 million race in track history, the Shadwell Turf Mile (G1), featuring reigning two-time Horse of the Year Wise Dan. First post time is 1:05 p.m. ET with the Shadwell going as the ninth race with a 5:45 p.m. post time.
