Maryland Million 2013 Fashion

Laurel Park hosts the Maryland Million on Saturday, October 19, 2013. Think traditional horse racing and equestrian inspired garments with a fun flair for your track fashion.

This Saturday October 19, the Maryland Million is set to take place at Laurel Park, Maryland, which includes the Classic Stakes, Turf Stakes, and the Ladies Stakes. The race events will be filled with traditions that are unique to the Maryland Million including the Suttler Post Clydesdales pulling a hitch wagon down the stretch and the Goshen Hounds Foxhunting Club where foxhounds will parade with members of the hunt club in the traditional red coats. With such rich tradition surrounding this race why not get inspired by tradition in your race day outfit.  Think traditional horse racing and equestrian inspired garments with a fun flair. Tweeds, houndstooth, plaids, blazers and equestrian menswear should serve as your inspiration for your look at the Maryland Million. Think of it as though you were going to be in the English Countryside in the fall time and choose equestrian menswear pieces and incorporate them into looks you already own.

Some pieces I love for Maryland Million Day are the schoolboy blazer layered over a dress or paired with a full skirt. A beaded collar adds a bit of feminine flair to a traditional menswear look. You can also try a bolder look with a houndstooth dress, or if you already have a great fitted top then pair it with a tweed pencil skirt.

Keep the menswear and equestrian vibe in your accessories as well.  I love the tweed heels from Modcloth or the oxford booties by Bandolino. Also, a houndstooth crossbody bag adds a fun touch to any outfit.

Of course you can’t forget to top things off with a hat or a fascinator for the Maryland Million.  Find one that you could picture a woman wearing while horseback riding in the Highlands like a great tweed piece from Fashion at the Races. Make sure to keep hair soft and pretty to contrast the menswear vibe and you’ll be sure to outshine all the boys at the Maryland Million!
