Belmont Stakes 2013 Possible Contenders
The third jewel and final leg of the Triple Crown is scheduled on Saturday June 8, 2013 at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. The 145th running of the Belmont Stakes is a 1 ½ mile dirt race for three-year-old thoroughbreds that takes place five weeks after the Kentucky Derby and three weeks after the Preakness Stakes. Fans are hoping the 2013 Belmont Stakes will include Orb and Oxbow along with the always resilient Rosie Napravnik aboard Mylute.
Union Rags and jockey John Velazquez won the 2012 Belmont Stakes. This year the field is shaping up to be a rematch between 2013 Kentucky Derby winner Orb and Preakness winner Oxbow. Oxbow won the Kentucky Derby with 15-1 odds while Triple Crown hopefuls sang the blues.
The Belmont Stakes has a 6:40 PM EDT post time and will be aired on NBC.

Belmont Stakes Fun Facts:
1) Not only did Secretariat set a new world record at the 1973 Belmont Stakes, he currently still holds the track record finishing the 12-furlong race in 2:24. 2013 marks the 40th anniversary of Secretariat’s Triple Crown win.
2) The Belmont Stakes is considered the “Run for The Carnations” because the winner is blanketed with carnations much like the “Run for The Roses” and the “Run for The Black-Eyed Susans”.
3) The official drink of the Belmont Stakes is the Belmont Breeze, which is made with whiskey, juice, and mint leaves.
