Dining in Lexington During Breeders’ Cup Week

Dining in Lexington During Breeders’ Cup Week: As you plan your weekend in Lexington, Kentucky, for the 2015 Breeders’ Cup, consider going out and about around town to experience some of Lexington’s fine dining establishments.

On West Main Street, try Tony’s of Lexington. Tony’s of Lexington has an expansive bar and serves a variety of bourbons along with great steaks, seafood, and even a raw bar. Try the featured oysters or Blue Points on the half shell, or, for a heartier meal, try the New Zealand Rack of Lamb. It is a little bit pricey, but you are sure to get quality fine dining in a modern rustic environment.

Another great fine dining option is Dudley’s On Short. This is located in a circa 1889 Northern Bank Building and features American foods and wines. Try the Citrus Marinated Shrimp or the Tournedos Maxwell, which is lump crab bacarnaise with mashed potatoes. For a lighter option, try the Kale and Parmesan Salad. Patrons can also try smaller snacks and bites with their wine like the Smoked Salmon Dudleyed Eggs or the Crispy Cauliflower. Dudley’s also features private dining, and on cool evenings, the doors are left open to provide a nice breeze.

For a romantic fine dining spot, try the Merrick Inn. It offers downhome southern fare with a touch of elegance. Guests can dine in the manor house or out on the big covered patio. Try the Fried Banana Peppers, which are a tradition in Lexington, or the Artichoke and Rock Shrimp Dip for appetizers. For your entrée, order the Southern Fried Chicken, which Merrick’s is famous for, or the Merrick Hot Brown, which features country ham, turkey, and Merrick’s famous mornay sauce.

For fine dining ethnic fare, try Bombay Bar and Grill for northern and southern Indian dishes, including family style options in an updated modern setting, or Tachibana Japanese restaurant, which serves hibachi group tables and offers a sushi bar.

During your stay in Lexington for the 2015 Breeders’ Cup, try any one of these fine dining locations, and you will be sure to have a fabulous experience.

The Breeders’ Cup takes place at Keeneland Race Course on Friday, Oct. 30 and Saturday, Oct. 31.
