Feeders’ Cup Appetizing Start to Breeders’ Cup Festival
Feeders’ Cup Appetizing Start to Breeders’ Cup Festival: Food lovers around Lexington unite! The Feeders’ Cup, an official part of the Kentucky One Health Breeders’ Cup Festival, will take place on Oct. 24 at Whitaker Bank Ball Park in Lexington, Kentucky. From 3:00 to 10:00 p.m., food trucks from all over Kentucky and other states will be competing for a spot at Winner’s Stretch during Festival week.
Winner’s Stretch is a coveted location to sell food leading up to the Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Keeneland on Oct. 30 and 31. This year’s Breeders’ Cup attendees are expected to start arriving early in the week to discover Lexington’s many attractions outside the racetrack.
Scoring for the Feeders’ Cup competition is done through a combination of celebrity judges’ votes and fans, meaning everyone can participate. According to the official website, judges will do a blind taste and make up 50 percent of the vote. The public votes for the other half. Voting closes at 9:00 p.m., and winners will be announced 30 minutes later.
Categories to vote on during Feeders’ Cup including Best Sweet, Best Southern Classic, Best World Fusion, Best Farm to Table and Best Overall.
Live music is scheduled and involves local Lexington bands. The swampy blues-rock band Johnny Conqueroo will take the stage at 4:00 p.m.
“We can’t wait!,” said band member Wils Quinn. “It’s a fun time to be in Lexington and we are big fans of the food truck movement. It’s going to be a fantastic day. The whole city of Lexington seems to be rallying around the Breeders’ Cup this year. It’s such as big event and it’s so much fun to be part of this!”
Two hours later, Coralee and the Townies will show off their honky-tonk-soul music. The live hip-hop group Shiesty Krist and Tribe Called Lex is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
Lexington locals competing in the Feeders’ Cup include southern comfort sensation Minton’s Little Brother, the Snack Shack, specializing in new wave Caribbean, Sav’s Chill homemade ice cream, and crowd-pleasing Rolling Oven pizza. Out-of-state competitors are traveling from New York, Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee and West Virginia.
Tickets are available on the official Feeders’ Cup website for $20 each. Get tickets early! The price will be $30 at the gate. Proceeds from Feeders’ Cup will support God’s Pantry. Voting instructions will be sent to attendees purchasing tickets online.
