Belmont Stakes 2013: Orb

Orb & Jockey Joel Rosario will compete in the 2013 Belmont Stakes on Saturday June 8th.

Orb & Jockey Joel Rosario will compete in the 2013 Belmont Stakes on Saturday June 8th.

The 145th running of the Belmont Stakes is set to take place on Saturday June 8, 2013 and will feature Kentucky Derby winner Orb. After a successful workout on Sunday, trainer Shug McGaughey finally announced that Orb would run in the third and final jewel of the Triple Crown with jockey Joel Rosario.

Orb’s Belmont Stakes status has been unclear since his fourth place finish in the Preakness Stakes. Sources say trainer Shug McGaughey wanted to be absolutely sure Orb was in tip-top condition to compete in the 2013 Belmont Stakes without any negative consequences on the three-year-old colt. Orb dominated the track throughout his career until his 4th place finish at Pimlico during the Preakness Stakes. Orb finished first in all five races before the Preakness Stakes including the Kentucky Derby, the Florida Derby, and the Fountain of Youth. In a recent interview trainer Shug McGaughey stated that the Pimlico track was loose and Orb simply didn’t handle it well, resulting in his loss. Shug stated he isn’t worried about the Belmont Stakes pace and is hoping to see Orb make a move from the outside.

Trainer Shug McGaughey is confident that Orb is ready to run in the Belmont Stakes.

Orb runs effortlessly and impresses both expert handicappers and loyal fans. As of today, rain clouds and thunderstorms are predicted for Elmont, NY with a 60% chance of rain on Belmont Stakes day. I’m no expert, but I believe Orb has what it takes to win the 2013 Belmont Stakes because he’s focused, fast, and thrives in the mud. The Malibu Moon colt is up against some fierce competition on the track though. It’s going to be a tough race and a well earned win for whoever crosses the finish line first!

Lady and The Track would like to wish Stuart S. Janney III, Phipps Stable, Joel Rosario, Shug McGaughey, and the magnificent Orb the best of luck during the 2013 Belmont Stakes. Good Luck! Safe Run!

The 2013 Belmont Stakes is the 11th race of the day on Saturday June 8th. If you’re watching the race from home, coverage begins on NBC at 5:00 PM EDT. Official Post Time for the 2013 Belmont Stales is approximately 6:40 PM EDT.
