Joint Return Wins the 2014 Busher Stakes

Joint Return Comes From Behind for the Win at the 2014 Busher Stakes: At the 2014 Busher Stakes, race 7 at Aqueduct, Joint Return won the $100,000 purse in the 1 1/16 length race for 3 year-old fillies. It was a seven filly race and going into the race Joint Return was the 7-1 5th pick. Joint Return took a ¼ length victory over Vero Amore.

At first things did not look too bright for Joint Return as she dropped to the back of the pack in the early stages of the race, but she was able to pull herself up for the win. Jockey Kendrick Carmouche let Joint Return make her way off the rail and she broke from her inside post settling in the rear, but eventually picked up the pace entering the turn and she was able to take over in the mid-stretch. She clocked a time of 1:48 2/5.

Carmouche said, “Today she was really on the muscle as I warmed her up…We left there and she put me in a good position. Being four and half, five lengths off of it is a good pace for her, and I though from there they couldn’t beat her.”

Ketel Twist rounded out the top three coming in at a half-length behind second place winner Vero Amore. Unfortunately for Vero Amore this is the second race in which she came in second, as she came in second at Aqueduct earlier in January.

About this race Vero Amore’s trainer Butch Reid said “She’s always game, gives it a try. The jock said she was fine and pulled up fine. We’ll give her a month now and look for a better spot.”

This race earned Joint Return a crucial 10 points towards on the Kentucky Oaks Leaderboard.
